Equine Chiropractic and Acupuncture
Dr. Bierbaum and Dr. Haukos are pleased to offer chiropractic evaluation and treatment. Technically termed ‘Spinal Manipulation’ in veterinary medicine, this modality has proven to be a valuable integrative therapy in horses of all ages, disciplines, and abilities. Chiropractic treatment aims to restore normal biomechanical motion to the horse through improved nerve function and circulation at joint surfaces.

Dr. Haukos offers acupuncture services to our clients. Acupuncture taps into the body’s own regulating and healing mechanisms and strives to achieve balance where there is imbalance and relieve energy blockages which cause pain, poor health, and poor performance. To achieve optimal results, we recommend a series of three treatments. Later appointments are focused on maintenance and strengthening of these positive trends as well as addressing any specific concerns that may have arisen since the last treatment.

Equine Reproduction
We have the capabilities of breeding with fresh shipped semen at your farm or the clinic. Our clinic can provide short term boarding for your mare and foal during breeding season.
Regenerative Medicine
We offer platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections for tendon and ligament injuries, arthritis, non-healing wounds and endometritis. PRP is a safer alternative to steroid injections and minimally invasive.

Arthramid is an intra-articular therapy we use to reduce the use of steroids that can damage joints over time. Arthramid provides long lasting relief for joint disease including osteoarthritis. Once injected, Arthramid works by stabilizing and protecting the damaged joint tissue using a polyacrylamide gel, reducing inflammation and promoting healing.

Shock Wave and Class 4 Laser Therapy
The PulseVet Shock Wave System produces high-energy sound waves, which stimulate cells and release healing growth factors in the body that reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, accelerate bone formation, and enhance wound healing.

Laser therapy provides you with a versatile, technician-driven tool that is a trustworthy adjunct to Shock Wave Therapy. Treatments are non-invasive, drug and surgery-free and can be administered in 1-10 minutes. Our Class 4 Laser uses photobiomodulation to deliver light to impaired or dysfunctional tissue, which leads to a cellular response mediated by mitochondrial mechanisms that reduce pain and inflammation and speed healing.

Boarding
We offer short-term horse boarding at our clinic. Whether you're in need of rehabilitation, quarantine services, breeding care, or wound management, we have the facilities to support your horse's needs.
Equine Emergency
Available 24/7 for current clients with a valid Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). VCPR with Sunflower Equine Veterinary Clinic means that for your horse(s) to be eligible for emergency services, they must have been seen by the veterinarian within the past year for a routine wellness exam with a minimum of a rabies vaccination. Emergency farm calls are restricted to within 25 miles from 21105 Nall Ave., Bucyrus, KS. Exceptions can be made for current clients with horses that are down and unable to rise. If we have not provided care for your horse(s) within the last 12 months or your horse is moved outside of the geographic practice area, the VCPR will be lapsed, and emergency veterinary care may not be provided. You must notify us immediately of any changes. New Clients must fulfill the requirements of the VCPR within 6 months to remain eligible for emergency care. We do not offer overnight hospitalization or care for sick patients requiring IV fluids or surgery.
We do charge an after-hours emergency fee along with the other charges normally incurred for diagnosis and treatment. To reach us in an emergency please call 913-681-3636.
